Yaupon Holly (Ilex vomitoria)
is one of Florida’s most versatile native evergreens, offering dependable structure, fine texture, and year-round color across a wide range of landscape conditions. Naturally adaptable to sun or shade, sandy or clay soils, drought, salt exposure, and occasionally wet sites, it is a practical choice for residential, commercial, coastal, and naturalized projects.
Depending on the selected form and pruning approach, Yaupon Holly can function as a small specimen tree, clipped hedge, informal screen, foundation planting, or massed evergreen backdrop. Female plants produce bright red berries that add winter interest and support birds, while the plant’s small dark-green leaves create a refined appearance without the coarse texture of many larger broadleaf evergreens.
