Sun Requirements

Requires full sun for optimal canopy development and structural strength.

Planting Instructions

• Choose a space with at least 40–60 feet of horizontal clearance.

• Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep.

• Backfill with native soil, water deeply, and mulch around the base (keeping mulch 2–3 inches away from the trunk).

Soil Requirements

Tolerates a wide range of soils, including sandy, loamy, and clay soils. Prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil, but is adaptable to most Florida landscapes.

Fertilizer

Fertilization is not typically necessary if planted in healthy soil. For young trees, a balanced, slow-release fertilizermay be applied in early spring during the first year to encourage establishment.

Watering

• Water deeply 2–3 times per week for the first 2–3 months after planting.

• After establishment (6–12 months), reduce to deep watering during prolonged dry periods.

• Mature trees are extremely drought-tolerant.

Pruning

• Prune in late winter to remove dead or crossing branches and to establish strong structure.

• Avoid excessive pruning while the tree is young; allow for natural form to develop.

• Raise lower branches gradually over time if clearance is needed.
