Lonicera sempervirens

Coral Honeysuckle is a beautiful native flowering vine prized for its vibrant coral-red tubular blooms and ability to attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and pollinators. Grown at Flowing Well Tree Farm in Pierson, Florida, this fast-growing climbing vine is an excellent choice for fences, trellises, arbors, mailboxes, and native pollinator gardens. Unlike invasive honeysuckle varieties, Coral Honeysuckle is a well-behaved native vine ideal for Florida landscapes.

 

Sun / Shade Requirements

• Grows best in full sun to partial shade
• Best flowering occurs with 6+ hours of sunlight daily

Watering

• Water deeply immediately after planting
• During establishment, water 2–3 times weekly
• Once established, water during extended dry periods
• Moderate drought tolerance once mature

Soil

• Prefers well-drained soil
• Adaptable to sandy, loamy, or slightly clay soils
• Performs well in Florida conditions

Planting

• Plant near a trellis, arbor, fence, or support structure
• Dig a hole 2–3 times wider than the root ball and equal depth
• Set the plant slightly above grade and backfill with native soil
• Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base (keep mulch away from stem)
• Space plants approximately 4–6 feet apart for coverage
