Peak Blooming: Heavy blooms in spring and summer—expect butterflies by the dozens!

Native Firebush (Hamelia patens) is relatively adaptable when it comes to soil, but it thrives best in well-draining, moderately fertile soil. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. Firebush can tolerate a variety of soil types, including sandy, loamy, and even clay soils, as long as they drain well.

It does well in dry to moderately moist conditions but is not suited for heavy, waterlogged soils. If you're planting Firebush in clay-heavy or poorly draining soil, amending the soil with organic matter like compost can improve drainage and encourage better root growth. Firebush is also drought-tolerant once established, making it an excellent choice for landscapes with periodic dry spells.
