Shumard Oak (Quercus shumardii)

 is a large, fast-growing Florida native shade tree valued for its broad canopy, strong structure, and outstanding fall color. Its substantial mature size makes it well suited to parks, campuses, large residential properties, and civic landscapes where a long-lived canopy tree can be given room to develop.
Adaptable to a range of soils and drought-tolerant once established, Shumard Oak also occurs naturally in wet hammocks, floodplain margins, and wetland edges. Its glossy, deeply lobed leaves turn vivid red in fall, providing one of the most reliable displays of autumn color among Florida’s large native oaks.
