ReGrow The Loop 2026 is proud to offer locally grown, Florida-friendly trees and shrubs cultivated by Flowing Well Tree Farm. These plants are selected for resilience, ecological value, and long-term success in home landscapes.

Plants Available for Adoption: Oakleaf Hydrangea, Silver Saw Palmetto, Red Cedar and Pignut Hickory

Each plant plays an important role in supporting wildlife, improving soil health, and strengthening our local ecosystem.

Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia)

Placement:
Plant in partial shade to full sun; morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal, especially in hotter climates.

Soil:
Prefers rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter. Slightly acidic soil encourages healthy growth.

Fertilizer:
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Avoid heavy feeding, which can reduce flowering.

Pruning:
Prune lightly after flowering if needed. Blooms form on old wood, so avoid heavy winter pruning.

Sun Needs:
Partial shade to full sun.

Health Tips:
Mulch to retain moisture and protect roots. Water consistently during establishment and during dry periods.

Silver Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens – Silver Form)

Placement:
Ideal for open landscapes, coastal gardens, and native plantings. Allow space for its natural spread.

Soil:
Thrives in sandy, well-draining soils and tolerates poor soils once established.

Fertilizer:
Minimal feeding required. Use a palm-specific fertilizer once a year in spring if desired.

Pruning:
Little to no pruning needed. Remove only fully dead fronds—never cut green ones.

Sun Needs:
Full sun to partial shade.

Health Tips:
Extremely drought-tolerant once established. Avoid overwatering and ensure good drainage.

Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana)

Placement:
Plant in open areas with good airflow. Excellent for windbreaks, wildlife habitat, and privacy screens.

Soil:
Adaptable to many soil types, including sandy and clay soils, as long as drainage is adequate.

Fertilizer:
Rarely needed. A light, slow-release fertilizer in early spring can support young trees.

Pruning:
Minimal pruning required. Remove dead or damaged branches as needed.

Sun Needs:
Full sun to partial shade.

Health Tips:
Drought-tolerant once established. Avoid wet, poorly drained sites to prevent root issues.

🌳 Pignut Hickory (Carya glabra)

Placement:
Plant in a permanent location with plenty of room to grow. Best suited for large yards or naturalized areas.

Soil:
Prefers deep, well-draining soil. Tolerates sandy and loamy soils.

Fertilizer:
Generally not required. A light application of balanced fertilizer in early spring can help young trees.

Pruning:
Minimal pruning; remove damaged or crossing branches while young to establish strong structure.

Sun Needs:
Full sun to partial shade.

Health Tips:
Water regularly during the first year. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and protect roots.
