Carolina Willow (Salix caroliniana) 3 gallon
Florida Native • Fast-Growing • Excellent for Wet Areas
The Carolina Willow is a fast-growing, native deciduous shrub or small tree ideal for natural landscapes, water features, or restoration projects. With graceful, narrow leaves and a naturally multi-stemmed form, this willow thrives in wet conditions and plays an important role in supporting native wildlife.
Planting Zone:
USDA Zones 7–10. Thrives in warm, humid regions and tolerates occasional frost.
Watering Needs:
Carolina Willow prefers consistently moist to wet soil. Excellent choice for planting along ponds, drainage ditches, wetlands, or other low-lying areas. It can tolerate short periods of drought once established but performs best with regular water.
Soil Requirements:
Grows in a variety of soils but prefers loamy, sandy, or silty soil with good moisture retention. Tolerates poor drainageand even standing water.
Light Requirements:
Performs best in full sun to part shade. More sun encourages denser growth.
Fertilizer:
Fertilization is generally not required in natural or wetland settings. For landscape use, a slow-release balanced fertilizer (e.g., 10-10-10) in early spring may encourage faster growth during establishment.
Pruning & Care:
Prune in late winter or early spring to shape or control size. Carolina Willow grows rapidly and can be cut back hard if needed—it rebounds quickly. Remove suckers and manage spread if desired.
Planting Tips:
Dig a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball.
Loosen surrounding soil and backfill with native soil—no need to amend.
Water thoroughly after planting and keep soil evenly moist for the first 3–6 months.
Apply mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds, but keep away from trunk.
A beautiful and resilient native tree, the Carolina Willow is perfect for eco-friendly landscapes and erosion control. Fast-growing, adaptable, and easy to care for!
