Florida Crest Nectarine (Prunus persica ‘Florida Crest’) 4-5FT Coming Soon
Florida Crest Nectarine is a low-chill, early-season nectarine variety developed specifically for warm climates like Florida. It produces smooth-skinned, red-blushed fruit with firm, flavorful flesh and attractive spring blooms that enhance the landscape. This dependable fruit tree is ideal for home orchards, edible gardens, and backyard plantings.
Mature Size
Typically reaches 10–15 feet tall with a similar spread; can be kept smaller with regular pruning.
USDA Growing Zones
Thrives in USDA Zones 8–10, performing best in regions with mild winters and warm growing seasons.
Placement & Sun Exposure
Plant in full sun (6–8 hours daily) to ensure strong growth, healthy flowering, and high-quality fruit. Select a site with good air circulation to reduce disease pressure.
Planting Instructions
Dig a hole twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball. Set the tree at the same soil level as it was grown in the container. Backfill with native soil, water thoroughly, and apply mulch while keeping it several inches away from the trunk.
Soil Requirements
Prefers well-drained sandy or loamy soil with good drainage. Avoid planting in low areas where water collects, as nectarines do not tolerate wet feet.
Watering
Water consistently during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, provide deep watering during dry periods, especially during flowering and fruit development.
Fertilizer
Apply a balanced slow-release fruit tree fertilizer in early spring. Additional light feeding after harvest may be beneficial if growth is slow. Avoid excessive nitrogen.
Pruning
Prune annually in late winter while dormant to maintain an open center structure. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and thin to improve airflow and sunlight penetration.
